LBL, Day Two

We headed to the Nature Center where we wandered around viewing the animals.  All the animals are native to the area and all have been rescued and so cannot live on their own.  We took a docent tour where we did learn more about the animals.  They have several species of owl,

turkeys in full feather,

wolves,
and turtles.  This shot of the open mouth of a snapping turtle shows a bit of pink on the end of his tongue.  Anyone know why it is there?

After lunch we went on a cemetery search.  The families who had lived here for generations had family burial plots.  These remain and are still tended to and used by the families.   We visited the Nickel family plot whose ancestors fought in the American Revolution.  There were also several who fought for the South in the Civil War and some who were WWI, WWII and Korean War veterans.  Many of the original stones stand but have newer stones with easier to read engravings.

The closeup of the badge on Jeremiah Nickell's stone designates that he fought in the Revolutionary War.

After dinner we took a lovely stroll to the lake where the sunset was gorgeous but the cameras were in the RV.
