More Acadia Wonders

George Dorr may have been the Father of Acadia, but John D. Rockefeller Jr. was the road builder.  He created and financed forty-five miles of roads to compliment and access nature.  They are for use by carriages, bicyclists and walkers.  The roads intertwine and there are  many bridges.
Cheryl and Dave went canoeing while we wandered the carriage roads.
We found a log that looks like a dragon
and roots growing out of a rock.
We climbed under a bridge on Duck Brook Road

and got worn out.
We strolled Witches Pond but didn’t find a witch.

On our third carriage road walk we crossed two bridges

found waterfalls
and waded across a stream.
We all went on a docent walk along the coast.  She explained the major role the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) played in the development of the park.

We went Thunder Hole to watch and hear the watch crash on the rocks but our timing was off and there was no roar for us.
Dining out in Bar Harbor was a great treat.  Saturday night’s dinner at Geddy’s was very good and they way they welcome children is impressive.

Bennett’s food was served on frisbees and he had plates of apples and carrots while waiting for dinner.  The frisbees got use back at the campground.
Sunday Brunch at the Reading Room of the Bar Harbor Inn was probably the best brunch we ever enjoyed (even better than the Mother’s Day Brunch at the Hyatt Regency in SF).
The French toast, smoked fish, even the fruit and vegetables were outstanding.  The cream puffs incredible.  Our worst compliment was that the brownies were just good.

The fog rolled enveloping the harbor.
In town ice cream parlors compete to be the best.  We returned to CJ’s Big Dipper for their tornado, vanilla filled with an assortment of candies.

We met a couple from California who were visiting Acadia for the second year in a row and staying for two weeks.  After all our touring we understand why this is a great destination.  It is the sheer beauty and serenity of Acadia that continuously enthralled all of us.

After our wonderful time in Maine, we returned to be with Jeff and our cousins in NY sharing adventures, enjoying delicious dining and topping it all off with more ice cream.

The next morning we all went our separate ways, comforted in knowing we will all be together in the upcoming months.
