Prepping for the New Year

We used to do Volkwalks both at home and while traveling but life got in the way. For the New Year, we have gone back to this activity and have now taken two special walks.

The first was to view the many murals that have been painted throughout downtown Sacramento.  Our cousins in Philadelphia got us hooked on murals when they took us on a trolley tour of the amazing murals of their city.

We had no idea there were so many in Sacramento.  Apparently there has been a lot of wall painting during the past decade.  With our unseasonably warm weather, we enjoyed a 5K stroll along the residential and commercial areas.  Sacramento is known as the Camellia Capital.  We didn’t expect to see the blaze of camellia bushes (sorry, forgot to photograph them).

Our route took us by murals with serious statements to make

others were amusing

and commercial

Power substations were also objects covered in amusing pictures.

We plan to take the other 5K walk later on to see even more murals.

The next weekend, with the weather even more pleasant, we headed to Galt to stroll around Cosumnes River Preserve viewing hundreds of waterfowl.

For those of you who want to continue seeing the murals, many more are below.
