Colombus

We met Trudy and Marvin last year at an RV rally in Michigan and became immediate friends. When we knew we were going to be in their area, we arranged to visit them in their home in Columbus. As natives of the city, their knowledge of the history and people gave our tour around town a personal touch. They could identify the people whose names were on buildings at Ohio State, hospitals and museums. We thought we had seen magnificent homes during our travels, but those in the city of Bexley (within Columbus) are the closest to neighborhood mansions as we have ever seen.

We didn’t expect to commit breaking and entry, but the four of us are guilty of crashing a party to enter the Conservatory where we admired the Chihulys and other art. Back outside, we enjoyed watching the glass building change color as LED lights turned from pink to red to purple to blue.
Our next “crime” was going into the lovely and historic Ohio Theater. A kind women let us into the closed theater because we had come from so far away. The theater had come to disrepair but, a few years ago, it was given a complete restoration including the addition of gold leaf to bring it back to its past glory. Our regret was that we could not stay long enough to attend a movie or performance.

We spent most of our second day at a juried art show with hundreds of booths filled with top quality paintings, photographs, woodcraft, jewelry and more. The only thing that prevented our purchasing was a lack of space at home for any more art objects.

We ended the day with a delicious Shabbat (Sabbath) dinner and wonderful sharing of stories.
