Back in DC

Friday was our day to babysit Ben.  He did all the right things like eating, sleeping, pooping, laughing and bathing.  He loves the outdoors and enjoyed two walks, one in the neighborhood and one to the farmer’s market.

The National Arboretum had a guided walk through the grounds.  It is surprising to find old growth trees in the nation’s capitol.  The arboretum has many sections including azaleas, redwoods and bonsai.  Our guide was too hurried for us but the area was lovely.

In the evening, after a wonderful (but noisy) Mexican dinner, we took a night stroll on the Mall.  We walked through the Korean War Memorial which at night was even more poignant.  The memorial has soldiers trudging through a swamp-like area.

We then climbed up to the Lincoln Memorial and gazed at the Washington Monument in the Reflecting Pool.

Before we left DC, we went to the National Zoo to visit Cheryl’s newly opened Seal and Sea Lion exhibit.

After ten days of grandparents, Ben was exhausted, but we will be back at the end of October.
