Valley of the Gods

We like to patronize local establishments when we go out to eat so we started off our day with breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe.  This establishment serves a great breakfast and has an entertaining history.  It has been residence, a County Courthouse, a jail, store, post office, and a gallery.  A former windowless cell with no ventilation is now used as a prep room.  Bennett liked riding the rail.
The Valley of the Gods is an off-the-beaten track state park consists of 250 million-year-old sandstone formations.  Jerry steered the CRV over the unpaved road stopping so we could take short hikes and many photographs.  The formations challenge the imagination to come up with descriptive names.  What do you see?

This is a fin, a thin slab of sandstone created by wind and water erosion.  These are throughout this area.
We stopped to wander along a dry wash getting close to examining the mineral deposits.
