Alpine

We set up the RV in the Big Bend country town of Alpine and then we set out to see the town.  One of our favorite things to do is to find murals and Alpine has a nice collection on its downtown buildings.

The murals have been painted in recent years and depict local history.
Dan Blocker, who played the loveable character Hoss on Bonanza, is an alum of Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
“We Put the Pine in Alpine” was the slogan of the former lumber company whose wall presents this mural.

We also found some enjoyable folk sculpture.
The Cow Dog serves Hebrew National hot dogs.
Our Lady of Peace has a plaque stating they were praying for the conversion of Russia.
