George Eastman house

The next day, in Rochester, while waiting for our son Jeff to arrive by train from Albany, we toured two significant homes. The first was the Eastman Mansion, of Eastman Kodak. George Eastman who invented roll film amongst other things photographic, originated the word “Kodak”. The word came from Eastman’s drawing Scrabble pieces from a stack until he found a word he liked. The home and gardens are grand. The man was quite an interesting person. In spite of his making photography available for average people, his real love was music. He was also a major philanthropist, donating much of his fortune to historic black universities and to dental clinics throughout the world.
